Whether you are creating a business or personal website, you might be wondering what content management system is the best option for your needs. Today, you can choose from a variety of CMS options, including Drupal vs WordPress CMS. Both choices offer advantages, but also have their drawbacks.

vs Drupal CMS

Drupal is known for being extremely powerful as well as developer-friendly. If you are building a complex site, Drupal is a good choice. If there is a significant downside to this CMS option, it is that it requires some experience and expertise. Utilizing a highly sophisticated programming interface, Drupal CMS comes with a fairly steep learning curve. As such, it is often considered to be a robust development platform than other CMSs, and is used more often in building back end solutions to works with the CMS front end.

Among the most important advantages of Drupal is that it provides a robust suite of features, including user account registration, RSS-Feeds, system administration, menu management, and page layout customization. These features can be used for creating everything from simple sites to forums to community websites. Also, Drupal includes excellent building tools and templates, meaning you can avoid the need to start from scratch and ultimately save time, allowing you to grow a site rapidly. Advanced administrator controls allow you exercise greater control, while the included themes make it easier to create dynamic pages for more interactive user experiences. Drupal CMS also features thousands of plugin modules and extensions. Furthermore, Drupal makes it possible for users to collaborate with you for creating, viewing, publishing, and administering social content.

There are some potential disadvantages to Drupal, including the fact that while being more robust it is also harder to learn and manage. A true strength in Drupal is its security. In our opinion (20 years of web development), of the w major open source CMS options, Drupal is by far the most secure.

vs WordPress CMS

WordPress is known for being extremely easy-to-use and has largely developed a reputation as a blogging platform. With the addition of numerous plugins, widgets, and themes, this CMS platform is now increasingly used for a variety of other purposes, including social media. One of the main benefits of WordPress is that you do not need a lot of technical experience to get started. The intuitive design of WordPress allows you to get set up rather quickly. You can even copy and paste text from a standard Word document to a site created with WordPress, something you can't do with other CMS platforms, like Drupal.

Thanks to the ease of use offered by WordPress, it is preferred by novices and experts. This means that WordPress is powerful enough to be used by a professional developer or designer but simple enough that a client can take over the site to manage it after it is up and running. There is even excellent support and tutorials, if you should never have a question. If there is a disadvantage to this CMS platform, it's in its security. With so many world wide users adding open source plug ins (how WP works), this CMS is an easy target for hackers and cyber attacks. We recommend WordPress for smaller websites that do not use a lot of plugins, and for those where the plugin they choose are a good fit for their business. (ie: Retail)
